This week, I have started to teach Duckie to sign. I decided to use basic ASL, modified according to his need for simplicity, as well as keeping his idiosyncratic signs as long as they work. I will focus on one new sign a week, while still using all the ones that come up. The logic behind baby signing is that a lot of poor toddler behaviour is rooted in their frustrations over not being able to communicate. Baby signing seeks to prevent or ameliorate this frustration. We'll see how it goes.
First, though, it will be difficult remembering the signs, myself.
